I don’t remember much about that night. I only remember that I had too much to drink at the bar, and that I made a terrible mistake.
I was feeling dizzy and nauseous, and I wanted to go home as soon as possible. I didn’t have enough money for a cab, and the bus stop was too far away. I decided to take a shortcut through an alleyway, hoping to save some time and avoid the crowds.
The alleyway was dark and dirty, filled with trash and rats. I could barely see where I was going, and I stumbled over some cans and bottles. I cursed and kept walking, trying to ignore the smell and the noise.
I was halfway through the alley when I heard a strange sound. It was like a mix of a growl and a hiss, and it came from behind me. I turned around and saw something that made my blood run cold.
It was a creature, unlike anything I had ever seen before. It had a humanoid shape, but it was covered with what appeared to be scales and spikes. It had four “arms”, each ending in a clawed hand. It also appeared to have a long tail, tipped with a barbed stinger.
It looked at me for a long moment that felt like an eternity, with a hungry and malicious intent, and it started to move towards me. I felt a surge of fear and adrenaline, and I ran for my life.
I sprinted towards the exit of the alley, hoping to reach the street and find help. But the creature was faster than me, and it caught up with me in seconds. It grabbed me by the shoulder and threw me to the ground. It pinned me down with its weight and raised one of its arms, ready to strike.
I struggled and kicked, but it was too strong. I felt its claws start digging into my flesh, and its breath on my face. I screamed, but no one heard me. I thought I was going to die, but then I saw something that gave me a chance.
It was a broken bottle, lying next to me. I reached for it and grabbed it by the neck. I stabbed wildly at the creature, hoping to blind it, or at least distract it. It let out a roar of pain and rage, and loosened its grip on me. I took the opportunity and pushed it off me. I got up and ran towards the exit, ignoring the pain and the blood.
I made it to the street, and I saw a police car parked nearby. I waved at it and shouted for help. The officer saw me and got out of his car. He asked me what happened and I told him everything.
He looked at me with disbelief and suspicion, and he called for backup and an ambulance. He took me to the hospital, where I was treated for my wounds. I had several bruises, cuts, and punctures, but nothing life-threatening. I was lucky to be alive.
The police searched the alley, but they found no trace of the creature. They said it must have escaped, or that I had imagined it. They said I was drunk and delusional, and that I had been attacked by a gang or an animal. They didn’t believe me, and they closed the case.
But I know what I saw, and I know what I did. I saw a creature, and I fought it. I escaped, but not without a cost. I still have nightmares about that night, and I still have scars on my body.
I don’t know what that creature was, or where it came from. I don’t know if it was the only one, or if there are more of them. I don’t know if it will ever come back, or if it will find me again.
All I know is that I will never take a shortcut through an alleyway again.
